ASSET Recommends... Reviewed Sites Making Connections Across the Curriculum

The following resources have been reviewed by ASSET and evaluated for their educational content and alignment to the Arizona Academic Standards. They include engaging activities for learners from Thinkfinity and other trusted sources and they model appropriate use of technology to address individual learning styles and needs. They provide a supplement to your 4th Grade Arizona Unit.

Thinkfinity is a free resource for all teachers. The Arizona Department of Education is recruiting educators from around Arizona to align all of the great resources in Thinkfinity to the Arizona Academic Standards. Historical Railroad Maps of Arizona

  o PO 1. Use different types of maps to solve problems (i.e., road maps -distance, resource maps-products, historical maps- boundaries, thematic map - climates).
o PO 2. Interpret political and physical maps using the following map elements:
  a. title
b. compass rose (cardinal and intermediate directions)

  o PO 3. Construct maps using symbols to represent human and physical features.

Life Science expands students’- biological understanding of life by focusing on the characteristics of living things, the diversity of life, and how organisms and populations change over time in terms of biological adaptation and genetics. This understanding includes the relationship of structures to their functions and life cycles, interrelationships of matter and energy in living organisms, and the interactions of living organisms with their environment.
  - Concept 4: Diversity, Adaptation, and Behavior
Identify plant and animal adaptations.
  o PO 1. Recognize that successful characteristics of populations are inherited traits that are favorable in a particular environment.
o PO 2. Give examples of adaptations that allow plants and animals to survive.
  camouflage - horned lizards, coyotes
mimicry - Monarch and Viceroy butterflies
physical - cactus spines
mutualism - species of acacia that harbor ants, which repel other harmful insects
