Who is Eligible:
The NATURE Arizona Digital Photography Contest 2009 is open to ALL photographers throughout Arizona who are at least 8 years of age, except employees of Eight, Arizona Public Television and Arizona Science Center, their immediate families and individuals living in the same household as such employees. Eight reserves the right to verify, in its sole judgment, winner eligibility.
Photographers must enter their images in one of the following divisions:
Pro - Full or part-time professional photographers who receive all or a major part of their income from photography.
Amateur - Beginning or amateur photographers at least 18 years of age, and experienced photographers who do not receive a major part of their income from photography.
Youth - Young photographers ages 8 to 17.
Look for inspiration from the PBS series NATURE:
NATURE in your own backyard - What creatures including both plants and animals inhabit your yard? From the closest zoom in to the panoramic view, share what natural and transplanted nature is a part of your own habitat.
NATURE tells a story - Exploring all aspects of nature in Arizona, you are bound to run into some incredible stories. Listen for the quietest of bubbling natural springs to the loudest crashing of monsoon storms, do any of your photos tell a story? Look closely at the smallest of insects or explore for the largest of animals inhabiting Arizona, do any of them seem to speak to you?
NATURE around Arizona - Our vast state encompasses unique vegetation only seen in deserts in certain parts of our state, high altitudes with volcanoes that currently lay silent, and weather phenomenon such as haboobs most commonly only seen in the Saharan desert. Capture some setting, some natural phenomenon, some creature that is uniquely Arizonan.
Upload a photo and make sure to tag it (label it) with words related to one of the ideas above.
Post a brief story (100 words or less) behind your photograph on the NATURE Arizona group corresponding to the contest category you are entering: Pro, Amateur, or Youth.
Browse through the other submissions and select your favorite. There will be 1 "Viewers' Choice" awarded in addition to the 3 categories listed above. Make sure to share why you voted for your favorite photograph in the NATURE Arizona contest.
Win Big! Each of the 3 categories – Pro, Amateur, and Youth will receive a Digital Photography Frame along with recognition on the Eight (azpbs.org and www.asset.asu.edu) and Arizona Science Center websites. Winners will also be displayed in "My Digital World" at Arizona Science Center in December 2009 and be recognized personally at Arizona Science Center’s First Friday Adult Speaker Series on November 6, 2009 along with the opportunity to meet NATURE Executive Producer, Fred Kauffman.
All contest entries will receive a NATURE Arizona certificate if the flickr account includes a valid email address.
