In your video, describe your own experience as a citizen living in Arizona’s Digital Nation. Your video can be a PSA, video blog, music video, animation, documentary, or other.

Who is Eligible:
The Arizona Digital Nation Contest is open to citizens throughout Arizona who are at least 13 years of age, except employees of Eight, Arizona Public Television, their immediate families and individuals living in the same household as such employees. Eight reserves the right to verify, in its sole judgment, winner eligibility.
Inspiration:
Try to think of a short but powerful story that fits in with the theme of the contest and really connects with the viewer. Humor is often good, since people love to laugh, and a video that makes them feel good will have an advantage. But you could also try to tug on the heart strings with a sad story, or to appeal to the audience's sense of fairness, injustice, courage, or patriotism, to give just a few ideas. Most important is to have a gripping story that people will want to watch from beginning to end.
Start With a Strong Hook Once you have your basic storyline, think about a really gripping way to start your video entry. If you can really captivate your audience in the first few seconds, you're well on your way to winning your video contest.
Visit YouTube and do a search for "best commercials." Ad agencies are paid big bucks to create short, moving stories, and you can learn a lot by watching the best of the best.

These are possible story ideas for the Arizona Digital Nation Contest. You are welcome to come up with your own ideas.
- Is access to technology an issue in classrooms? How have you experienced this?
- Where do you see the differences between students with access to digital tools and students without access?
- Is there a gap between those who grew up with technology (digital natives) and those who didn't? (*It would be really interesting to hear this answered by someone on a reserve, or from a large Hispanic family where the generations live in close proximity to each other)
- How is digital life changing your community?
- Have you, or someone you know, ever been completely "off the grid"?
- Does all this technology makes you feel overwhelmed or empowered?
- Do you feel that your children/students have a different concept of privacy than you do? Of relationships?
- Are there skills or values that you fear are getting lost as we move into a digital world? Like letter-writing, reading books, asking people out face to face?
- Do you know what people know about you?
- Has anything you've said or done online come back to haunt you? Have you discovered anything about you didn't know about your children/spouse/colleague online?
- Do you have trouble unplugging?
- What's the most amazing thing that's happened to you online?
- What's the most disturbing way that technology has impacted your life?
Hide ideas
Tips:
You don't need an expensive video camera to participate in video contests. Many digital cameras, and even cell phones, have the ability to record video.
If you have no way of recording video, you might still be able to enter the contest by using photographs. Use a video program to make a slideshow of relevant photos and set them to music, or voice-over to tell your story.
A clean and tidy area to use as a backdrop with good lighting is optimum for producing a visually pleasing video.

How to Enter:
CREATE a story about how digital technology is impacting your life using video, photos, audio, animation or text to create your 1-2 minute video. Clearly identify your role: student, educator, parent, administrator, community member, policy maker.
UPLOAD your video to your own blog, AZ Digital Nation on YouTube, blip.tv, Vimeo, or Animoto. Each site will have its own instructions and terms of use. Be sure to TAG your item "az_dig_nat".
JOIN the AZ Digital Nation Ning and share a link to your video in your profile. Feel free to include background information about the production of your video. Post any questions you might have about the process to the Ning. Comment on videos you find there. Check back for comments made on your submission.
Judging:
Winners will be selected by public vote and announced online on April 16, 2010.
Special Note: Public voting has been delayed. Winners will be announced on April 28, 2010.
