ASSET resources are connected to 21st Century Learning! ASSET has searched WGBH Teacher’s Domain and Discovery Education streaming's video libraries and other selected resources for high-tech cross curricular connections to Thirteen’s NATURE. These resources are correlated to state and national educational standards.
WGBH Teacher’s Domain
All educators with access to the internet have access to these award winning resources free of charge. Teacher’s Domain includes streaming and mashable video segments from NATURE, Nova, Nova Science Now, CYBERCHASE and many other PBS favorites. Search by Arizona Academic Standard down to the Performance Objective for resources that fit your curriculum. Create a free login to download and save resources to online files, and even share with your students!
Example 1: NATURE Rhinoceros Capture
Try the “Focus & Frame Activity” to connect the science content to narrative writing.
Arizona Science Standard: Strand 3: Science in Personal and Social Perspectives and Arizona Language Arts Writing Standard: Strand 1: Process connect these resources to local learning.
Example 2: Teacher’s Domain Special Collection – Alaskan Native Perspectives on Earth and Climate Compare “Earth as a System” (Atmosphere, Biosphere, Cryosphere, Hydrosphere, Lithosphere) to “Traditional Ways of Knowing” (Spirit, Air, Fire, Water, Earth).

Discovery Education streaming
Arizona teachers have powerful resources available to them at no cost through IDEAL. Discovery Education streaming has over 1300 full videos available on the topic of science. Many are aligned to Arizona Academic Standards. To access these videos, just log into www.ideal.azed.gov and click on the Curriculum Resources link and click “Go” under DiscoveryStreaming. To search for videos, just choose Math and your grade level.
Example 1: Earth's Changing Climates: Climate Change and the Extinction of the Woolly Mammoth. Earth has had 4 major ice ages in the past 2 million years with warming times in between the ice ages. The last ice age coincides with the extinction of the woolly mammoth. The limited food supply and changing environmental conditions may have led to the extinction of the woolly mammoth.

Example 2: Life Science: Mammals. Wolves, whales, bears, people—we’re all mammals. The 4,100 species of mammals feed their young with milk and have hair of some sort. Humans share many qualities with the other mammals.

Tech4Learning Recipes4Success
Arizona teachers also have access to Recipes4Success at no cost through IDEAL. This collection of just-in-time tutorials are curriculum based. To access Recipes, just log into www.ideal.azed.gov and click on the Curriculum Resources link and click “Go” under Recipes4Success.
Example 1: Consider putting innovation and creation in the hands of your students. Use these Recipes to guide your directions for helping students create their own NATURE videos: Windows Movie Maker -Making Digital Movies. To find, select the “Recipe” button and type “video” into the search field.

Example 2: Make sure your students properly credit the resources they use in their projects with Citation Maker. Creating a complete and correctly formatted citation is a challenge for many students, especially documenting sources such as art and music that aren't included in traditional citation formats. Create a citation formatted in either APA or MLA style. Students will still need to completely document the information, but the Citation Maker will format it for them. Find Citation Maker under the Tools link on the left sidebar.
