Spark Contests

What's Your Spark Arizona?

Submit an entry or several to Eight and Arizona Science Center's "What's Your Spark?" Digital Photography Contest through November 30, 2009.

 

Who is Eligible:

The "What's Your Spark?" Arizona Digital Photography Contest 2009 is open to ALL photographers throughout Arizona who are at least 8 years of age, except employees of Eight, Arizona Public Television and Arizona Science Center, their immediate families and individuals living in the same household as such employees. Eight reserves the right to verify, in its sole judgment, winner eligibility.

 

Divisions:

Photographers must enter their images in one of the following divisions:

  1. Pro - Full or part-time professional photographers who receive all or a major part of their income from photography.
  2. Amateur - Beginning or amateur photographers at least 18 years of age, and experienced photographers who do not receive a major part of their income from photography.
  3. Youth - Young photographers ages 8 to 17.

 

Inspiration:

Look for inspiration from the PBS program:

  • The First Spark (Corresponding to Episode 1):

    "Where and when did the Human Spark first ignite?" What evidence have you found in Arizona to show you the incredible talents and beauty of our ancient ancestors as you have explored throughout the state?

  • Humans & Close Friends (Corresponding to Episode 2):

    What Human Spark ignites close relations between us as human beings and our non human friends?

  • Social Bonds (Corresponding to Episode 3):

    "…the unparalleled ability of humans to forge social bonds". What is the Human Spark that binds you to other Arizonans? What makes you uniquely human?

     

    Participation:

    Participation is FREE and the process is SIMPLE:

    1. Create a free account on www.flickr.com
    2. Join the "What's Your Spark?" Arizona group
    3. Upload a photo and make sure to tag it (label it) with words related to one of the ideas above.
    4. Post a brief story (100 words or less) behind your photograph on the "What's Your Spark?" Arizona group corresponding to the contest category you are entering: Pro, Amateur, or Youth.
    5. Browse through the other submissions and select your favorite. There will be 1 "Viewers' Choice" awarded in addition to the 3 categories listed above. Make sure to share why you voted for your favorite photograph in the "What's Your Spark?" Arizona contest.

    Prizes:

    All winners will be recognized at Arizona Science Center on January 5, 2010. They will each be
    awarded $300 cash, a scholarship to take a photography course from Scottsdale Community
    College
    and have their photo on display in the My Digital World gallery at Arizona Science Center.
    Additionally, all winners will appear on Eight’s and Arizona Science Center’s websites. Eight will
    also select and publish certain winners from any category in the January/February 2010 issues of
    Eight Magazine. Eight will send two copies of that issue to the winners who are published in it.
    Various finalists as determined by Eight may also appear on Eight’s website linked from azpbs.org.
